My mother got a check from the "Grand International Sweepstakes" scam what to do????

My mother got a check from the Grand International Sweepstakes and Lotteries, and she took it to her bank and deposited it, not knowing it was a scam. The check was for 3,750 and now the account is twice that amount overdrawn and all funds have been frozen. Now we know it was a scam, when she deposited she did not know. Is there any way to retrieve the funds? What should we do? Do banks in the state of Michigan have protection for this sort of thing. Please help.

Report it to the police and the postal authorities. The money is probably gone for good, though. Use common sense. You can't win a lottery you didn't enter.
Reply:More than likely it had big letters on it that said DO NOT CASH but your mom was to greedy to see that or even read the letter attached that said it was not a real check. What she did was try to deposit a fake check and if whe was in Texas she would have got time for theft by check. Maybe when you get all this settled you and your mom can come into the real world and realize people don't just send you money out of the blue. And learn to read the fine print
Reply:I also got one that was 2957.00 but I didn't take it to my bank. As for you supersold, it does not have Do not cash. It looks like a real check so don't act like a know it all cause you don't know nothing.
Reply:first of all, the bank was stupid for not catching the counterfeit check. secondly, the bank was stupid for not putting an uncollected funds hold on it for at least 5 days, maybe as long as 11. if your mom spent the "money," she will have to repay it. she needs to contact her bank and work it out with them...let them know that she didn't realize it was a scam at the time. now....i work for a bank that has branches in southwestern Michigan. if it was one of my branches, i'll see it. if not....well....


she still needs to work it out with her bank. technically, it's the teller's fault for not catching it. and it's the teller who will get most of the blame as far as the bank is concerned.
Reply:same thing happen to my daughter and now she must pay the bank back the money unfronately she dont have a job so me and my ex hubby (her dad) is paying for it , it is eighter that or they take her to court
