Is this United British Lotto & North American Sweepstakes a scam???

I recieved this letter by mail came from canada and it says United British Lotto Certificate of Award on it including a real check on the bottom it looks real I just don't know if it's a scam because I did not play any lotto. ??? Thank you!!!

Is this United British Lotto %26amp; North American Sweepstakes a scam???
Yes, this is a scam and here is how it works.

The criminals who run the scam are a Nigerian gang. They use stolen checks from real businesses.

When you receive one of these checks and deposit it in your bank account, your bank will verify if the account on which the check was drawn exists and has sufficient funds. This will generally be the case. Therefore after a few business days you will receive funds in your account.

Now this is where it becomes really dangerous to you: You have just passed a bad check, which is *illegal* and you can go to prison for that. Furthermore, the check can and will still bounce. When that happens it is *you* and not the bank who will be liable for any losses! Checks can bounce for months after they have already "cleared" and it is the depositor who endorsed it with his signature on the back who is responsible. You vouch for the check with your signature.

Once the bank that holds the company's account forwards it to the company's accounts department they will see that it doesn't match any check they signed. They will find that it came from a stolen checkbook. They will notify their bank, which will notify your bank and the funds will be removed from your account.

If you have already withdrawn the cash and forwarded it to the criminals (they will tell you there are taxes and handling fees to be paid) then your account will be thousands of dollars in the red. It will get frozen. The bank may report you to the police. You may be charged with and prosecuted for passing bad checks and for wire fraud.

If you receive any check under an arrangement where you are to cash it and forward funds from it to the check sender or a third party nominated by the sender, you can safely assume it to be a scam. Take the check to the police. Possession of fake checks is a crime under US Federal Law.
Reply:I got one of the letters in the mail and i took it to the police station hopfuly they will catch these people who scam. Report Abuse

Reply:If you didn't pay money to enter this lottery, it most certainly is a scam.

Here are the hallmarks of a lottery scam:

You never paid money or bought a ticket to enter.

Your "winning" notification is probably not personalized.

Your "winning" notification came by email, probably from a free email

address such as yahoo.com or msn.com.

The way this scam works is, if you respond to the email, after one or

two email exchanges with the so-called "lottery officials" or "claims

agent," perhaps accompianied by some official looking but fake

documents, you will be asked to pay fees for "taxes" or "handling" or

some other reason. This is the scam, you pay the fees and never see

any winnings, mainly because there are none to see.
Reply:I recieved the same check from united british lotto in the amount of $2998.85 I verified funds w/ the suntrust bank of central florida by calling them @ 1-800-221-9792 and now I am jus waiting for my check to clear at my bank...The letter I recieved says that their are 19 winners so could be 19 of us are gonna get paid....YES..I believe this is the real deal!!!$$$$$$
Reply:I received a check from the United British Lotto, it has a routing # on it and everything looks to be in order. They didn't request me to send a check. Is this check for real?
Reply:well i receive the same letter and i also called the # on the certificate and the man told me deposit the check into my account allow 48 hours for the check to clear than send it to him western union and in 5 to 7 bus. days I'll receive my check for 90,000.00.. but i don't know what to do, i wonder if it would clear at my bank.. think i might give it a shot but i wont send them sh**i..
Reply:and it's probably asking you to send a check for some amount to them....yes it's a scam and because it's outside the U.S. you can't do a thing to them if you send

the check and you get nothing back
Reply:Before anyone says the lottery is a waste of money... In Georgia (US) the lottery pays for my education. Every year a percentage of lotto profits are given out as scholarship money to georgia residents with a 3.0 avergae or higher. (yes only a 3.0/4.0) It's called the hope scholarship and it is amazing!

Yay for lotteries and yay for the dream of being rich without working!
Reply:awereness thru experience ,, you play you pay .
Reply:hey, I just got one of these checks today, but mine is drawn from baker distributing co. but is also from bank of america. when i researched baker distributing co. they are located in fl. and are a heating and cooling company!! What the hell do they have to do with the lotto?
Reply:I have too. I was so freakin exited, but i didnt play the lotto either. Have you tried calling?

musicaltrujillo@yahoo.com

do you sign up for alot of things?

ok i JUST READ THIS..

I got one of these "British Lotto" checks myself. My husband and I are both unemployed right now. We should have known this was a scam but I am always entering sweepstakes and stupid me thought it was real. Even my bank thought it was for real. So, they cashed it. Now I am in the hole at the tune of $1600, and it really bites. Boy did I learn my lesson. PLEASE, if you get a check for United British Lotto, DON'T CASH IT!!!!!!! BIG FAT SCAM!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:i received the same letter from the united brittish lotto. i also received a check in the amount of 2998.95. i was told to cash it and send it to them. once they receive the money(which are the taxes on the prise money) then i would receive my check in the amount of 95K. so i think its real. if itws not i dont loose anything. i had to pay nothing. what do u think
Reply:I enter and play many different online games
Reply:hi we reiceved in the mail a check also form united british lotto and it was a real check and now we have to send that check back to them to pay the taxas on the money we one but they already sent a real chck to pay the taxas on the rest so????????? is it real????????
Reply:I got the very same thing in the mail, and I am hoping it's real! We called the number it says to call, and an actual financial company was at the other end, though they were closed because it was Sunday. Even if it's not real, I agree that I'm not out anything if I send them most of that check and don't actually get the prize. There's also an extra $150 on the check that they don't ask for back.
Reply:I just got the same check for $2,998.85 with the same directions what are the odds that everyone can get 95,000.00 or even 90,000.00 no one can afford to pay out so much to so many people and why is the check form Sun Trust a FL bank when its a British Lotto that I didn't enter. I think it a scam to get your identity or to involve you in illegal dialings I'll go talk to my bank Wednesday and see that they say about the legality of the check and the whole afire.
Reply:united british lotto is a scam, the check is counterfeit
Reply:When a stranger sends you a check, asks you to cash it, and then send him the money, the check is always fake and it is always a scam. You should treat it the same way as if someone on the street asked you to do the same thing. And if you send money by Western Union, you can never get that money back. It is untraceable. That's why scammers love Western Union.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Reply:Lotterys work like this:

1)10,000 people pay 1 dollar/euro/pound/yen....etc

The lottery company now has 10,000

2) the lottery company holds a draw and gives out 7,000 in winnings (and keeps the profit 3,000)

Scams work like this:

-1)nobody pays money (there is no money to win)

0)a scammer sends out 10,000 spam emails to tell people they have won a lottery they havn't entered.(they pretend they work for real lottery websites)

2)The Scammer asks for your Personal details (be prepared! your inbox is going to be full of emails asking for you personally...and dont get me started on what they are gonna do with your Bank details!)

3)The scammer tells you that you have to pay fees before you can accept the "winnings" (and NO,you cant pay out of the winnings! they dont exist!....silly maga)

4)The scammer manages to con 3 people out of 1000 and gives all his profits to a charity for orphaned goats (he dosn't really...he keeps it ;) )

5)Your inbox gets more mails than help@microsoft.com

Everything from "You have won anotther sooperdooperlottry" to "CHAN U B A NEXT OF KIN" to "Please join our company, cash our checks, send us the money until your bank realises you are laundering money for us?)

The moral of the story is...If it sounds too good to be true... It probably is

Some times they will help you pay the fees.

They will give you a check (Wooooo hoooooo!!!)

The checks will be fake....very good fakes.

You can hand them to a 25yr old bank teller and they wont know the difference.

The checks go in your account.

Your bank "HONOURS" the checks

You send the money to the scammer in Nigeria

The bank sends the check back to the issuing bank (can take up to 6 months)

The Issueing bank refuses to "CLEAR" the check.

Your bank says"Hey...you put in a fake check ....wheres the money?"

You say" I sent it to [insert scammers name here] by western union money transfer(untracable) to that lovely man/woman/both in Nigeria"

The bank says"??? you robbed your own bank???"

You plead Ignorance..."Im innocent" etc

They say "But YOU put the check in our bank...." and you do jail time for bank fraud

"419" scammers....dont ya love 'em

Reply:I received a letter and a check also. Call the bank from which the check was drawn, you'll find this is a scam. The bank, (Citibank of Delaware), asked me to provide any info I could and requested that I fax the check %26amp; the letter. If you should try and cash this check, you are responsible for any fees and penelties involved once it bounces.

CALL THE BANK!!!!!!
Reply:i also received a letter sating that i won 2,998.85 us dollars and i'm confused about this. What should i do next to receive the rest of the prize.

Please let me know if you do sponser sweepstakes? If yes, how can I verify?

I have a email from Yahoo saying I have been chosen to win a sweepstake. How can I vrify if it is official Yahoo sponsered program

Please let me know if you do sponser sweepstakes? If yes, how can I verify?
The first question to ask is: Did I enter any Yahoo sweepstakes? If not, the chances are that this is one of the very popular Yahoo Lottery Scams going around right now. Other signs: They are asking you for money to claim your win, they say that you won a lottery (or worse, an international lottery), they are saying you won an extremely large amount of money.

Who wins the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes? I have entered 4+ times/wk the last 6 years. Nothing!

Is it bogus...a rip off? Surely, they are held accountable by some agency. FTC, Consumer Protection, anyone? Where is a complete list of winners and can they be verified?

U.S.Postal Authorities and the State of New York Attornney General's Office would handle any complaint against Publishers Clearing House!

A couple of years ago they got hit with a quarter million in fines, when someone found a bag of unopened return envelopes in a dumpster!

National Shopper's Sweepstakes, can I cash check at one of those check cashing places?
My guess would be that since you kinda know that these checks are fraud that you are asking if you could cash one at a check cashing place so that your bank wouldn't take money out of your account but you would still have the money. I mean, you could do it, but the check cashing place would come after you for the money when the check didn't clear.
Reply:This is a total scam. I received the same thing. I contacted the Credit Union that the cashier's check was from and they have know recorded. I also informed the U.S. Attorney General Office about this scam.

Specs on Journey Tickets won in a 106.9 The Point Sweepstakes?

My boyfriend won 2 tickets to see Journey and Cheap Trick in a sweepstakes given by 106.9 the point (Birmingham.) 5 people could win, and we were one of the lucky 5, which is awesome and all, but we won't know where we're seated until we go and pick up the tickets. My mom seems to think they might be lawn tickets. Which means worse than nosebleed, in our venue's case. Could this be? Why would they have a sweepstakes for worse than nosebleeds?

Specs on Journey Tickets won in a 106.9 The Point Sweepstakes?
If they said, you will find out where you are seated when you pick up the tickets, then you have a seat. Radio tickets are usually good seats.

FINANCE of P O Box 2600, Fort Langley, B.C. Canada VIM 4E8, are they a business of SWEEPSTAKES? Can it be true
Almost definately a scam. No company makes money by giving away huge sums for no reward to themselves.

It is scam. Yahoo (insert any company name here, this answer works for all!) do not run an email lottery, if they did you could guarantee it would be advertised all over their home page. Check out these links and search answers to see how many people 'win' the exact same lottery every day

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/lottery_sca...

http://www.hoax-slayer.com/email-lottery...

Do not click on any links, the page you will be taken to will look authentic but is not

Do not send them a 'courier fee' or any other money

Do not hand over any bank details or passwords

Do report spam

Do delete

Remember there is no such thing as a free lunch. You cannot win a lottery if you haven ot bought a ticket. Anyone can set up an email account with Yahoo, they can use any combination of letters they choose. I could be 'thequeenmother@yahoo.com' or 'disneyfreeticketsgenuine@yahoo.com' That doesn't mean that I am either of these and is fine as long as I don't try to use the address to mislead people. Don't be fooled by legitimate looking email addresses which end the same way as any other free account, don't be fooled by fictitious titles such as 'Dr' or 'Executive Director of Winner Claims'.

(I've answered this question so many times that I now keep this answer on my desktop and just copy and paste....that should give you a clue!)
Reply:Its a SCAM..

Think about it.. If you won a Lottery... Anywhere in the WORLD..... Don't you think they would fly you out there so, they can have you on TV and whatever else...

Think about it.. Here in the US.. If anyone wins anything even near a million.. Its all over the newspapers and TV...

There probley going to try and steal your identity or after you fill out Payment Processing.. There going to say please send us (about) $5,000 for the taxes and processing fees...

So, I wouldn't do anything but, just ignore them.. Or write back and say.. Send me the money and I'll send you the info back once I received it..

They will never answer you back.. and I would try and call you Internet provider and tell them about it...

Good luck with everything and let us know what happens...

Reply:Alot of sweepstakes scams include a sales presentation. They say that you have won an undetermined prized, and make you sit through a sales pitch before you collect it. Usually, the prize isn't worth your time, or has strings attatched. For instance, you may win a Florida vacation. The catch-you pay for the airfare, and it's in an off-season.

BUT....usually it never hurts to enter a free sweeps. Some offer real prizes. Just don't give out any personal info, like SS# or credit card #.
Reply:do NOT reply to foreign ones that say u have won as they are all scams.they just want ur bank details to empty your account and when u inform ur bank of the fraud they dont ven help they just say its ur fault

Do you know anybody who won Reader's Digest Sweepstakes while sending documents back in a "NO" reply envelope

Good question! In fact...does anyone know someone who has ever WON the sweepstakes, or any OTHER contest, where they give away a house, or a car, or motorcycle, etc?

Ever know anyone who has won a Pepsi contest, or "found the right bottle cap" on some soda, to win a contest?

Makes me think that the contests are just a ploy to get people to spend more money on their products, or, like R.D. Sweepstakes, their magazines!

Do you know anybody who won Reader's Digest Sweepstakes while sending documents back in a "NO" reply envelope
Actually I do. About 8 years ago an acquantantce of mine won a car from roll up rim of a Tim Hortons cup. Report Abuse

Reply:Hi there,

I work for Reader's Digest as it happens and of the 15 major cash prizes that we have given away in the past three Sweepstake draws, four of the winners had replied ‘No’ to our offer. Please note also that through the course of a sweepstakes a customer may receive multiple opportunities to enter the draw. In some cases they may respond ‘Yes’ to the offer and in other cases they may respond ‘No’ to just enter the draw. So while they may have once purchased a product, the winning entry could very well have come from a ‘No’ response. I hope this clears things up for you?

Is AOL/AIM doing a holiday sweepstakes again this year? What are some other sweepsstakes going on this year??

Hi,

I love entering sweepstakes. Last year, AIM had one that was pretty cool, It was like a game where you scratch something, you can play every day of december. I won a starbucks giftcard, and 2 itunes free downloads last year.

Are there any others? like i remember in the past dell had one that was like Dellf Delivers or something, which was the same idea, you scratch something away every day to try to win something.

Are there any other sweeps stakes going on anywhere? Preferabbly known popular places like dell, AOL etc you know what i mean

its a new method of marketing their products and some of them are hackers too as they may ask about Ur credit card information and so on.

other than this, theses kind of emails contains virus and Trojans which are very harmful for Ur computer. so beware

Reply:SCAM! This is a version of what is called an "advance fee" fraud. Essentially, they will try to get personal bank information or will attempt to get you to pay them a fee of some kind in order to get the prize. Read all about scams like these at: http://www.scamorama.com
Reply:I get those every day. They're usually from Africa or England, they're often from a "barrister", the prize is often in pounds (£), and the authors often refer to themselves as "Mr.".

I work for a bank and I see these kinds of things all the time and it is a big time scam, this one in particular is very common. I had it forwarded to my fraud department at work and they said it is out of the Neverlands. Also, never ever ever respond to these emails or call or let them mail you travelers cheques or wire you money because than you have set yourself up for identity theft!

I am someone that deals with these sorts of things on a daily basis where I work so I know how easy it is to become a victim and how many people actually fall for it and lose alot..

The Irish Sweepstakes closes after 56 years. A new National Lottery will begin next year.

Heard of Instant Solution Group of Publishers Sweepstakes??

I got a letter from the saying 86,000 bucks. My name was attached to a lottery ticket and won 2nd prize. I aslo a check for 1,980. Its a real check but they want me to cash it and send the money back to pay the fees assosiated with the sponser. The check is from Tulsa, OK but the phone number I Called about it is in Alberta Canda. If I send it back they say my money after 10% taken out is 76,000. What should I do??????

Heard of Instant Solution Group of Publishers Sweepstakes??
Here's what happens. You go to the bank and cash it, and send the money to them, and pretty soon the bank calls and says that the check bounced and could you come right down and cover it with cash. So you're out $1980 and you never hear from them again. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's a scam.
Reply:The check is probably stolen or forged. This is a scam. Not even a new one I am afraid. Your best bet is to give what ever information you have (including the check) to law enforcement. In KS, the attorney generals office handles these cases. You might check with your local authorities.
Reply:Throw the check in the garbage and be glad you didn't get ripped off. It's an old scam. i got one of the letters saying I was an heir to someone overseas..blah, blah, blah. I had seen an article that the FBI was investigating this scheme so I contacted them, sent the info I had and have never heard anything. I still get the same e-mails so I guess they still aren't caught.
Reply:I JUST RECIEVED THE SAME LETTER IN THE MAIL ! I CALLED THE PHONE NUMBER AND LEFT A MESSAGE. I WILL NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION ABOUT ME,IF WE TRUELY WON WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO COLLECT IT. THE LETTER ALSO SAID THAT I WON THE LOTTERY PRIZE IN THE SECOND CATAGORY OF 86,000.00 DOLLARS

Do you think that sweepstakes, put on by major companies and brands, are legit?

Or do you think they have designated winners allready picked? Like when a soda company has you log on online to enter a sweepstakes. I think they have a fake person in Jamica all set up to win before hand and they just transfer the money to this fake person and the transfer it back to themselves. Am I crazy or do others feel the same?

Yah, I've won stuff here and there, on the radio or TV. The most recent thing I've won (online) was a couple of passes to that movie Forbidden Kingdom. Is this a scam? I got a real check in the mail for $4,350 from an e-games sweepstakes place....?

I got a typed letter on plain white paper saying I won money from some lottery drawing pool with a real check inside for $4,350.00. I called the # on the letter. They told me the check was real when I spoke to them and to deposit it in my bank. The guy who asked for my ref # on the letter he had a very thick accent %26amp; I could barely understand him but from what I got from him I'm suppose to deposit this check in my bank account and they will take $3,250.00 out of the amount for government surcharges. Then he said something about them sending the remainder prize money to me that I won which is $96,650.00 %26amp; that amount will be delivered to me within 48 hours by ups or fedex. I told him I wasn't interested %26amp; he said OK and quickly hung up on me. I think this is a scam. It seems fishy even though the check is real. Anyone ever get this and actually do it and get $? It says they are registered under the data protection act but I 'm very suspicious that this is a scam.

Is this a scam? I got a real check in the mail for $4,350 from an e-games sweepstakes place....?
I am sure this is a skam. Do not give them any of your personal information because soon after you deposit the check is WILL BOUNCE. There are tons and tons of overseas skams and this sure sounds like one of them. I mean think about this, do you remember even entering a lottery pool of any kind?
Reply:It is a scam to get your personal bank info. Burn it!!!

Reply:Don't cash that check-it's a scam. This is a classic and well known scam so just toss that check and forget it. You will cash it and give the crooks their money and then the check will not be good. Then you will be responsible for all of it and fees back to your bank.

Undisbursed Sweepstakes?

What happens to money that is not given away in a sweepstakes. Companies allocate budgeted dollars for a sweepstakes. So, what happens if the winning ticket is never drawn? Can Joe public apply for those undisbursed funds? If so, how do you go about it?

Undisbursed Sweepstakes?
Look in the rules for something regarding unclaimed prizes. Almost every one of those I have seen has something in about them. The most common type of statement is "Unclaimed prizes will not be awarded." Another is "There will be a second-chance drawing for unclaimed prizes." It is all up to the people running it.

Reply:Just delete the scam e-mail and move on. Unless you've actually lost money to the scammers, law enforcement can't do much. Many agencies are too busy with people who have already become victims, to deal with the countless e-mail users who receive these scam e-mails every day.

And if you report the scammer's e-mail address to the provider to have the box closed, you might interfere with one of those investigations. It's easiest to just delete the message, really.

Did you even enter anything? Doesn't sound real.
Reply:Scam. No sweepstakes/lottery will ever ask for any of your money. If you had hte money to give, then why would you play the lottery or sweepstakes? Especially be careful if you did not enter anything. Even if you did enter, always ask for something in writing, that usually scares em off pretty quickly. Who charges for winning?

Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center (www.fraud.org) these days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.

Another Sweepstakes Scam! Where do I report this?

I received a cashier's check for $ 4,960.00 in my name today, together with a letter advising me to contact Mr. XXX YYYY ZZZ at a certain phone number for instructions on how to collect the "rest" of my winnings in an international sweepstakes (Virgin Islands).

I do not recall having entered any sweepstakes.

I have of course not contacted anyone, nor will I cash the check. BTW the check supposedly is an "advance" on my "total winnings of $ 90,000", to be used to pay the processing fee which in turn would release to be the $85,040 remaining dollars.

Input please!

Ok, here is the deal. The check is bogus. However, it is convincing enough that the bank will probably accept it and process it. It will take quite a while to process. The bank is required by law to make the money available to you after a few days even if the check has not cleared. You get hold of the money and send it off to the guy thru Western Union. He gets it and it is next to impossible to trace it back to him or to recall your money. Ok, the bank fails to clear and they want the money back. You are the one on the hook. The bank will not care that you sent it off to someone else. You will be the person who is required to send the money back to the bank.

If you have any questions about this then go to the bank and ask to speak with a bank manager and tell him/her about all of this. See what kind of response you get.
Reply:I would personally be ware of this. First, did you sign up for a sweepstakes anywhere? I would take it to a financial institution to have them examine it, before you get taken, there are just too many scams now days!
Reply:You are very smart. Yes, it is illegal! Take the check, the envelope, and the letter down to your police station, and if they aren't interested, take it to your post office to be investigated for mail fraud.

Why can't Rhode Island participate in sweepstakes?

Every time I hear about a promotion taking place on the radio or online I always hear a disclaimer saying "Not valid in Rhode Island". why is that? What is it about Rhode Island law that doesn't permit their participation in these prize contests?

Why can't Rhode Island participate in sweepstakes?
There must be a state law against it. Most New England States have Blue Laws to enforce morals.

Anyone here ever win a sweepstakes?

I just got a notice about such and am a little suspicious

These things are often gimmicks

Anyone here ever win a sweepstakes?
If a contest, that you didn't enter, wants to give you a prize, then it's probably some sort of scam.

If you enter and then they contact you, most of the time it is genuine. Watch out if they want you to pay anything, as that just isn't right.

I've won some small contests (radio station, and online author's website) and the prizes were just books and CDs. Nice, but not like millions of dollars or a trip to Disney World.
Reply:yes it was a time clock ( IT ACTUALLY COST ME AS MUCH AS IF I WERE TO GO out AND BUY IT)
Reply:sometimes theyre fake, like those trix yogurt stuff. they just want you to buy more. but some are real. like, you can go to websites that have like, a million sweepstakes, and muy dad does it and he wins sometimes. key word SOMETIMES

Have you ever met a Christian who won a lot of money with sweepstakes?

Most Christians don't believe gambling is right, to which I agree. But what about entering free sweepstakes?

Have you ever met a Christian who won a lot of money with sweepstakes?
No. Actually, I've never met anyone at all who won a lot of money with sweepstakes.
Reply:I don't know of any of my Christians who gamble
Reply:As a Christian myself, I certainly hope to win that lot of money with the sweepstakes, or rather, the lottery tonight!!!!

HaHaHa!!!!;-)
Reply:When something is free, is it gambling? If you play the lotto you do what?
Reply:no but contests are fine when theyre free
Reply:Yep. A girl I went to school with her parents won a million. This girl had had a handicapped daughter who would need care all her life and they immediately set up some sort of trust that she would always be taken care of. This was not a wealthy family and that money was a real blessing.
Reply:just play BINGO!
Reply:yes. I have heard of quite a few and most Christians gamble on lottery tickets and slot machines and sweepstakes and bingo and other events that sponsor gambling.
Reply:the Jews cast lots for their land (lottery?) farmers gamble when they plant seed each year

Gambling is bad when it is abusive...depriving food from your family or compulsive when it is more important to you than Jesus

(by the way i dont gamble...i prefer to use my money to spread the gospel)

but you cannot find anywhere in the bible that says you cannot
Reply:theres nothing wrong with enter a sweepstake or gambling just do it in modertion and don't lose all your money or let it take over your life

i hope you win some mullah
Reply:pray about it fool
Reply:Entering a sweepstakes is some type of gambling, if they don't beleive in gambling why would they do it.
Reply:They're not interested in it if it's free, because it's a waste of time.
Reply:In any event, it would be sheer accident.
Reply:thats not gambling tho

How can I find out about yahoo/msn/microsoft/windows/sw...

No such thing. It is called a phishing attack. These are generally received via spam email.

You shouldn't open unsolicted email from unknown sources. Often what happens is that when you open up spam, it sends back a trigger to the originating source indicating that a valid email address has been found thus subjecting you to even more spam down the road. Even using the preview pane in email products sends web beacons back to spammers.( http://helpdesk.gwu.edu/mailfilter/spam.... )

However, in this case since you have already opened up this email which is a probably a variant of the 419 Nigerian phishing scheme, display all headers and send it to Fraud Watch International. The email address is in the link to the webpage below.

http://www.fraudwatchinternational.com/l...

There are a couple Yahoo pages dedicated to the 419 Fraud

Who actually enters sweepstakes and giveaway contests?

Personally, I'm not the kind of person who ever enters contests, especially on the Internet. But clearly people do. So I'm curious, do you enter sweepstakes? Have you ever won? What makes you decide whether to participate?

Here's the one that prompted the question: http://blog.wirefly.com/oddsandends/0921...

If you enter that one and win, be sure to share the prize money with me! :-) LOL

Who actually enters sweepstakes and giveaway contests?
I know somebody who's mum is real good at winning, she even won the house she lives in. She's a true professional, if she wants something she'll hunt down every single offer/sweepstakes there is then she'll enter each one and eventually she'll always get it.
Reply:I enter some of the well-know company sweepstakes, but I've never won anything.
Reply:I do. I mean, why not? Free stuff (especially free money) is cool.
Reply:depends on what the prize is. if I want it, I'll enter but never win
Reply:I can usually be tempted to enter travel contests, but $10,000 would really help and I do need a new cell phone right now, so I think I'll be buying one and see if I can be one of the winners. I see the first winner was just posted - http://blog.wirefly.com/oddsandends/0924...

And I have won contests before - I got a free trip to Hong Kong (including airfare and hotel) for me and a friend
Reply:I dont, all I would get is junk mail.
Reply:I used to but it seemed all I got out of it was more junk mail!
Reply:not me because when you sign up for them that is giving your telephone number to the telemarketers
Reply:no i don't, i get enough junk mail as it is
Reply:I don't waste my time with that kind of stuff.

The odds that you will actually win are nil.
Reply:Before the internet, I used to subscribe to a newsletter that was all about contests. I would spend hours and lots of money on stamps entering. I won a few cool prizes, nothing to brag about.

then the internet came along and I entered all kinds of sweepstakes because it was free. I won a 3 night stay at the Rio in Vegas from a site called Gambling.com. Eventually I ended up working for gambling.com (from home) and made more money doing that than I was making working for the US Census Bureau.

Then Uncle Sam decided that online gambling was illegal and even though we were only a portal to gambling sites, there were major cutbacks in advertisers spending and the site was sold. I was out of the best job I ever had. It was a good 5 years while it lasted though.

Reply:People who are ever hopeful.
Reply:silly people
Reply:if im interested i enter

but i dont win anything ever, except for sports....
Reply:After a friend of mine won a car playing online sweepstakes, I decided to give it a shot. I didn't win a car, but I won a $2,000 Tory Burch sweepstakes. That was fantastic!

I haven't entered any online contests since then because I don't feel like taking the time to enter.

What are some non scam sweepstakes that you can enter if you are 13+?

sweepstakes that are for 13 years old and up and all you have to do is enter and not buy or look or try anything. like win money, home makeovers, vacation trips, and electronics.

What are some non scam sweepstakes that you can enter if you are 13+?
If you do not check a company before entering into a transaction, you could lose your money, time and credibility. Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center (www.fraud.org) these days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.

You can find more detailed information about a company at http://tinyurl.com/gtb89

Who's gonna win the Johan Santana sweepstakes?

Will be interesting to see.

Sox might have a shot if their willing to give up Lester, Bucholz and Crisp.

Who's gonna win the Johan Santana sweepstakes?
I like him where he is because the Indians beat him five times in 2007.
Reply:The Twins
Reply:Santana has yet to declare for free agency, so there's a good chance he'll get re-signed. The Twins can be a contender next year which is what Santana wants, along with a little more money of course.
Reply:Johan Santana, because if they are bidding for him, he is going to get a sweet deal more than likely.
Reply:This is just plain retarded on behalf of Twins managment. They should have locked Santana up last year to avoid having to deal with a possible bidding war after 2008.
Reply:The Yankees (as I've said in a previous question) need a lefty to protect the short porch. I surmise they will not let this opportunity go by. Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera, and a minor league player (or 2) will most likely be the deal. BUT only if they are able to sign him to an extension. He's a free agent after next year, and no one wants a rent-a-player for that price.
Reply:Said that the Yanks and Sox have the prospects to probably make this work. Imagine a staff of Beckett, Santana, Schilling, Dice-K and it could be a little leaguer for all of the wins that those 4 will give you.
Reply:Yankees or Mets will probably get Santana. They need him the most.
Reply:personally the richest team ya NY F____king Yankees they get everyone wich is BS But you play to win and Pay they do so Hears to another run to the Yanks,Heck if they had Ichiro I change teams?
Reply:Is that minor league player or two Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes?

No, there isn't a "sweepstakes" here...I agree that Santana is going to remain in Minnesota at least through next year.
Reply:None, as the Twins are not trading him this offseason. They are trying to get the city to help them build a new ballpark, and if they trade their best player away, that would kill the stadium deal. Guaranteed that he will be a Twin in 08!!!

Does anyone know what the Monday and Tuesday's clues were for the Fox 2 Wedding of a Lifetime sweepstakes?

Are the Gamestop sweepstakes real?

i really want to know if the sweepstakes are real because i entered one but i didn't win.Its either because i didn't win or its not real.

Are the Gamestop sweepstakes real?
Gamestop does run a large number of sweepstakes. However, like with most sweepstakes, the odds of winning are thousands to one against you. In order to consistently win sweepstakes, you have to enter a lot of them - which can be a really fun hobby. You can find some great information about how to win sweepstakes here: http://contests.about.com/od/sweepstakes... Good luck!

Lagit contests and sweepstakes?

i am looking for lagit contests and sweepstakes that i can enter that i donot have to pay first before i can ....just for fun and maybe profit!

Lagit contests and sweepstakes?
Try Hypersweep.com first. You get a 1 week free trial, then it's $3 a month is all, or $26 a year. It has thousands of legit contests, and it keeps track of how often you can enter it, how often you have entered it, and whether or not you are eligable to enter it again. I have a hard time finding new contests that are NOT already posted to that group, though.

If it asks for a referral, tell em gilly_bean_baby sent ya ;)

If nothing else, the weeklong trial is a great start at contesting. You can literally enter every single contest they have if you want. There's no restrictions on the week long trial.

Has anyone recieved a letter from Global Union Sweepstakes with an enclosed check in the amount of $2,975.00?

The letter says you have won an international sweepstakes and gives you a reference number and instructions on what to do with the check. The letter also states that the check will cover insurances needed to deliver prize and that 20% of your prize will be kept to repay the check. The check will look authentic and real but beware it is a FAKE!!!

Has anyone recieved a letter from Global Union Sweepstakes with an enclosed check in the amount of $2,975.00?
No, I read in the paper about the scam here in Michigan it has been reported to the Detroit based FBI.
Reply:ya think?

of course it fake

since of course you never entered the contest
Reply:trash it

If something is too good to be true, it probably is.

Does anyone know for sure...is Global Union Sweepstakes (headquarters located in Canada) a scam?

A check for $2,975.00 is mailed along with a letter and asks u to call before cashing the check to verify that the check and the letter was received. The check is supposed to cover the insurance on the sweepstakes prize. The check was drawn on Wells Fargo Bank and was cashed by the recipient. So, the insurance for the prize was paid, but to no avail...no prize money has been awarded.

Does anyone know for sure...is Global Union Sweepstakes (headquarters located in Canada) a scam?
let me guess you won second prize in an international sweepstakes in the amount of 200,000 dollars right? I got that letter and check in the mail about a week ago and followed the instructions to the tee and I can say yes it is a scam thanks to those dead beats who devote their time preying on people who work hard for their living I am in legal problems with my personal bank the only difference in my case is that the check was drawn on some bank in Texas that do not even exist.
Reply:I received a check and a letter too. I deposited the check and waited for it to clear. It cleared for a day then my bank informed me that it wasn't a good check. Lucky for me I waited to send any money to them. Can anyone tell me what happened after that happens? Did anyone else call them back Report Abuse

Reply:is it a scam? Report Abuse

Reply:Yeah, same incident here, only the check was drawn on Silicon Valley bank.

Who has the best sweepstakes on the web?

best prizes, best web design, best speed of entry, you didn't quite say, but I'd have to say amongst the best would be womansday.com. They are quick to enter, no games to play, some pretty great prizes and are always quick to turnaround, when one ends, another starts, and they run multiple contests at one time, near a dozen simultaneously!
